AI2-THOR is a remarkable AI-powered simulation environment that offers a wide range of capabilities. It includes 120 rooms such as kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, and living rooms, with over 2000 unique objects. Based on Unity 3D, it enables physical simulation for objects and scenes, allowing for realistic interactions. Objects within the environment have visual state changes, including open/close, on/off, and hot/cold. It supports multiple agent types like humanoids and drones, and multiple agents can be present in a single scene. Additionally, it features 89 apartments with 600+ objects, with physical and simulated counterparts for 14 apartments. The LoCoBot robot with a Kinect camera is used, and the apartments are built in a modular fashion from an asset library, making them easily reconfigurable. The simulation and real environments are accessible to all. AI2-THOR has seen several updates, with the latest being in February 2022, where it now supports headless rendering, making it more accessible for use on computing clusters. In April 2021, ManipulaTHOR was released, facilitating visual manipulation of objects using a robotic arm.
